Right out of the bottle this sauce hits you with spiced up flavor
mirrored with a wonderfully rich tasting mouth-feel. It’s not watered
down like store bottled ketchup nor is it as sweet as many familiar
brands on the market. A simple scan of the ingredients shows that the
lineup is entirely organic and gluten-free, starting with organic
tomato puree and finishing with hickory smoke flavor. “Wholemato Organic Ketchups…
have been certified as Low-Glycemic for Diabetics by the Glycemic
Research Institute due to their remarkable low score on the glycemic
index.” It’s also nice to see that the ketchup is packaged in a
solid glass bottle and not the familiar plastic tub that many have come
to recognize.

By itself the sauce has excellent body, and can stand on its own against many BBQ sauces. The chili peppers give the ketchup a nice spicy bite while the agave nectar gives a subtle sweetness that lingers on the tongue to help offset too much heat. The aroma of the ketchup when first opened smells of freshed smoked tomato sauce, done over a low fire for hours. I highly recommend this sauce for those that love ketchup with an added kick. It has loads of fresh tasting flavor that goes well with ribs, burgers, chicken and pork.
The suggested retail price for the ketchup is $5.49, and is available at Whole Foods Markets and many other chains and independent retailers across the United States. Wholemato is a family run business that cares about its products and the health of their customers by supporting sustainable organic agriculture.

With
summer barbeque season in full swing and everyone eating burgers and
hot dogs on a regular basis, I was curious about a new organic ketchup
by Wholemato.
This new product is a gourmet organic ketchup. I just wasn’t sure
something sweetened with Agave, which is a natural sweetener, would
make me want to switch from the traditional ketchup that is sweetened
with high fructose corn syrup.
One of the benefits of using Agave as the sweetener is that it does
not adversely affect blood glucose or insulin, making it an option for
those with diabetes. A second benefit is that it is gluten-free, which
seems to be something that more and more people need to consider when
purchasing food products.

(Jun 12, 2008) Despite all the great tofu recipes out there, our love affair with the burger is not over. But no need to feel guilty -- it’s never been easier to create a perfect earth-friendly burger that is healthier for you and the environment.
Some penicillin with your burger?
Conventional meat is just not good for us. First mad cow followed by foot and mouth disease and now this new report released by the Pew Charitable Trusts and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health shows a strong connection between the drug-resistant superbugs and the amount of antibiotics pumped into our livestock. The organization is recommending restrictions on the antibiotics used on livestock because of this increase in antibiotic-resistant bacteria. They also recommend we return to having smaller, easier to manage farms.
The Union of Concerned Scientists estimates that at least 70 percent of the antibiotics used in America are fed to animals living on factory farms while the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published a study showing that a strain of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) was transmitted from reservoir animals to humans.
Happy cows
Meat from “grass fed” or “pasture raised” cows is starting to gain a following simply because the meat tastes better. Free range cows have a much nicer life being able to graze and eat a natural diet. Since corn-fed cows are not eating a natural diet, they are often unhealthier and need regular doses of antibiotics. Grass fed beef has fewer additives but is higher in Vitamin A, E and Omega-3 fatty while being lower in cholesterol.
“We are already experiencing an increase in the demand of our grass fed dairy products as this becomes the new category in dairy,” says Chad Pawlak, president of Grass Point Farms currently producing grass fed dairy products. .
Good for the grill and earth
Pasture-raised cattle are also better for the environment since they use fewer resources to raise. There’s no need to buy or haul grains since the cows are eating off the land. With cows in the pasture there are no fetid piles of manure that have to moved using a gas-guzzling machine. Instead it remains on the land, turning into an organic fertilizer.

Speciality meats
Wild game is slowly gaining some ground in the market. Bison is a wonderfully efficient animal, more so than their bovine cousin. Bison are able to survive outside year round and that makes them more energy efficient. The meat has lower cholesterol but is higher in iron, zinc, selenium, vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids – that adds up to one healthy burger. Fair trade beef
Uruguay is recognized as the world-class producer of organic beef free of hormones and antibiotics. Its strict regulations require all cattle be fully traced from ranch to harvest to packaging and as a result 70 percent of production is exported.
The Florida-based Uruguay Steak has started importing the beef and will ship it out flash frozen and vacuum-packed to anyone who buys online.
Consider the condiments
Don’t ruin your green burger by using conventional condiments filled with gluten, high fructose corn syrup, distilled vinegar and salt with a dash of food colouring. Not to mention the genetically modified vegetables grown with pesticides.
Ditch the conventional ketchup for Wholemato Organic Agave Ketchup. Sweetened with organic agave, free of preservatives, this unadultered ketchup has a pure tomato flavour. With a low glycemic index of seven, it’s also suitable for diabetics. For an added kick try the spicy flavour. On sale at Whole Food stores everyone.
Relish lovers will relish the organic sweet relish from Sunshine Farms. This company makes a whole range of pickles and their divine organic sweet relish manages to be sweet and spicy at the same time without any of the usual colouring and corn syrup sweeteners.
Round off your trio of condiments with Eden Organic Yellow Mustard, made without any artificial coloring agents, synthetic additives or refined salt and sugar. It even comes in a handy child-friendly squeeze bottle.
Add some organic cheddar cheese, top it off with a whole grain bun and you have the perfect earth-friendly burger. Read more about green barbecue techniques here.

Organic ketchup just got better! Wholemato Organic Agave Ketchup is a family owned business. Agave nectar in the ketchup is sustainably harvested by a collective of indigenous people in Mexico. All Wholemato Organic Agave Ketchups are sold in a glass bottle since many consumers are concerned about the leak of chemicals that come out of plastic materials.
The use of agave nectar as sweetener in the ketchup lowers the glycemic index. One serving of Wholemato Organic Agave Ketchup has a glycemic index of 7. The test by Glycemic Research Institute confirmed the ketchup to be a low glycemic product for diabetics. Conventional ketchups are sweetened with high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, or other types of sugar.
Their new spicy flavor is inspired by smoky barbecue sauce. It has a tangy, rich, and robust flavor. You can use it as a sauce with chicken nuggets, burgers, BBQ, pasta, etc. Wholemato is also developing an exotic flavor, which is coming out this summer.
You can find the ingredients and nutrition facts of Wholemato Organic Agave Ketchup at www.wholemato.com/flavors.htm. It is wonderful to see the progress of organic products in the LOHAS market!

Wholemato announces its Organic Agave
Ketchup as a healthier spin on an American favorite. This ketchup
combines the flavor of ripe organic tomatoes with a flavorful blend of
spices and agave nectar. The agave used is a natural sweetener
comprised primarily of fructose. According to the company, this
condiment is ideal for those who suffer from diabetes or hyperactivity,
because it does not adversely impact blood glucose and insulin. Wholemato Organic Ketchup, 319 Lafayette St, Ste. 188, New York, NY 10012.
